En märklig följetong det här... det senaste var något om att deras lager brann upp? Från början planerat (och uppe på preorder med direktbetalning...) till början av 2002 tyckte jag att jag läste.

We can now state when Total War will ship – 18 Nov 2013, and this means that all copies should go out before Thanksgiving (28Nov13). We have completed arrangements for funding that will be available on that date that will cover the shipping costs for the game. There is a possibility of earlier shipping if another source of funds we have been exploring pans out, but the 18 Nov funding is now definite.

Total War is the first in our series of games covering the Soviet Great Patriotic War. This game is an extensive remake of the GDW game Fire in the East with new information on the maps and Orders of Battle from the Soviet archives and new sources. It will cover the western Soviet Union from June, 1941 to March, 1942. Pre-publication orders for the game will include the OB and counters for the Soviet Army in the west from September 1939 to March 1942 for later use in Grand Europa modules.ion members and anyone overseas (regardless of membership).

Problemet är a) att de har slut på pengar och dörför inte kan skeppa spelet till dem som redan betalt för det, och b) de knappast har skrivit färdigt reglerna, än mindre testat spelet, efter att de frös ut John Astell och beslöt att bygga om spelet från grunden.

Total War should now begin shipping December 6th, 2013. After getting approval for most our electronic files from the printer, we uncovered an error. This was a error on our part, here at HMS. Due in part to the long development time for the rules and OBs, we had not coordinated our software conversions as well as we should have.

While the bulk of the booklets are in a standard format, the OBs and part of the rules use a number of special symbols and graphics. Transfer from Mac to PC files and then to the format needed by the printers, slightly altered some of the text. Our scans of the initial print proof copies focused on the page length and margins since we had already edited the text of the files. The printers have generously minimized the cost to reprint and we will move ahead with the new print schedule.

We hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving!

In the midst of all of the holiday rush, we missed a late Wednesday cell call from the printer. This was questioning our instructions for reprinting several of our booklets. We have had standing instructions to call with any questions, at any time. We understand from the message that they have suspended printing until our Monday and Tuesday meetings. They have a long weekend and were not available after Thursday. We will let you know if this results in any delay.

In the mean time, we have permission from our investors to make the initial surprise turn of the Soviet OB available for download, since we have already given a sample of the initial Axis OB and are close to a shipping date. This should allow customers who have already received their counters to begin to trim and organize the Soviet border MD units for placement.

Har själv aldrig spelat föregångaren eller förbokat detta, men har inte kunnat låta bli och fascineras av senaste tidens händelser.

Här är den senaste anledningen till en ny försening, uppenbarligen är det fel på papperet nu, men som tur är har dom ett nytt datum, 18/12.....


We have talked with the printers a number of times since Sunday. The problem on the evening of November 27th was booklet sheets that appeared too light due to a major variation in paper porosity. The company has agreed that the print is not acceptable (did not match the proof copy we signed off on). They will reprint our material as soon as possible. The problem is that they have booked their presses until the 18th of December.

They offered to discount the already printed booklets and match the color shade on what has been printed but it would arrive at almost the same time. We have reluctantly accepted a reprint of the darker (proof) version. They have given assurances that they will use any available press time that becomes open. We will let you know if that is possible and when we are told to expect the material. We will begin packing and shipping as soon as we receive the printed components.

We should have these before Christmas but cannot know how many will be shipped before then. Any that are not shipped by the 24th will continue to be shipped as rapidly as possible.

Well, it's the end of the first week of December, and Total War hasn't shipped yet despite all our efforts. We've another delay with getting the last components of the game (the rules and OBs) printed here in Denver. Some background is necessary to understand what has happened. The lawsuit by Cory Manka against HMS and Gar and I personally–left the company with a very large debt and could have sunk us had Gar not arranged loans to keep us afloat. It has taken years to recover from this and accumulate the funds necessary to complete Total War. We had an opportunity to finally get Total War out this summer but to re-raise the last of the money needed to do this would have required us to tap into Gar's retirement account. Gar was willing to do this but I didn't want him to take on another risk of this magnitude and convinced him to await the sale of the unfolded Total War maps. And the map sales brought in enough money to cover the remaining printing costs and all but cover the game shipping costs. However, it was close enough that we made arrangements for the last of the local printing to go to the printer in late October. Various problems with file formatting delayed the printing into mid-November. Then an unexpected opportunity appeared from our printer. A very large firm approached our local print group with a massive order that required an immediate printing start to catch the holidays. The printer explained the lucrative opportunity they had been presented with and asked if we would accept a significant discount on our printing if we would allow our job to be moved after the large rush order. This discount would more than close our shipping costs 'gap' for Total War. And, given that even with the delay, it appeared we could still have the game shipped in time for Christmas, we accepted the offer. This turned out to be too optimistic, since printing problems and an expansion of the large print job has delayed our printing slot. It now appears that our printing will be scheduled for the week of 19 December. This should certainly allow us to ship before the end of the year and may allow us to get some of the early preorders off before Christmas. We know how disappointing this situation is. We really wanted to have the game shipped in time for Christmas. 'Total War' has been a long and expensive process with many delays and setbacks but it is coming to a close. We appreciate the patience and support we have received from all or the gamers who kept us going. We will be sending out TEM (The Europa Magazine) #88 about 40 days after the last preorder is in the mail. This will be followed by #89 about 30 days after that. The magazines will be talking about our plans for the new year and some long range plans as well.



Is that the first time there's been Christmas sadness about Total War? Nope.

Four of the six Total War maps have now been redone. The next step will be to send them back to the printer for full size color proofs. These are sent to us express and it it takes only two days to "proof" the proofs. We overnight the signed copies back to the printer who then gives us a slot when the printing will be done and ready for shipment. The shipment to Denver will include the counters, boxes and maps and will arrive in a very large semi. We will announce it here when the printer will schedule a slot. Given the holidays and the need to give the print folks some holiday, it will be early January before we hear. Due to the delay, we are extending the cut off date for ordering unfolded maps and ordering Total War with the bonus Soviet 1939-42 Order of Battle. This will be January 10th. After that date, the bonus OB will not be included in orders for the game. This OB will be offered for sale much later in the year and the flat maps should be available at our regular map prices plus postage. We had hoped to get the game to all of you before Christmas. We sincerely apologize for this delay and hope your Christmas and New Year will be happy and enjoyable. Eye on the Spires. The clip of the Moscow area has been shown before but in the latest version, is just a little different. We are awaiting word from the printing and die-cutting firm on when we will receive a scheduled 'slot' for their work on the counter sheets and game boxes. This is apparently a very busy season for them. When we receive word on when the counters and boxes will be scheduled, we will post the estimated delivery date on this website. In the mean time, we will shortly be posting some new marker sheets that gamers may download to provide more markers as well as samples of the TW components on the HMS website. We will finalize and correct these marker sheets after gamers have had a chance to comment on the new markers and make suggestions. The five new half sheets will start with ACS-4 in a day or two. While the original Total War pre-publication price is no more, until the game is finished printing, we will include the pre-publication bonus Soviet 1939-41 Order of Battle and counters in current orders for TW. After Total War is in the mail, we will resume publication of The Europa Magazine (TEM) with the long awaited issue 88. This will be followed shortly by issue 89. Number 88 should give subscribers a good idea of what the magazine will look like in the new format. The full color maps for 88 have already been printed. The die-cut counters to be added to the magazine will be printed and die-cut along with the TW sheets. The editorial for 89 will contain a discussion of the plans for the games in the Europa, Great War and Glory series and how we hope to address Grand Europa



I'm tempting to cycle through the "it's the printers fault" excuses, but there's no point in beating a dead horse.

Det man undrar över är vad det är för charad som dessa jeppar spelar egentligen? Om de inte har någon avsikt att någonsin ge ut spelet, varför går de inte bara i konkurs för att bli av med hela eländet? Varför stå ut med att framstå som det största skämtet i branschen och bli hånade år efter år? Om de faktiskt skulle ge ut Total war till slut så har de ändå ingen som helst cred kvar. Ingen kommer att någonsin preorda ett nytt spel från dem, så de är ju slut i vilket fall som helst.

Jsg tror att de verkligen vill ge ut spelet, och de har till och med tryckt brickor och spelplaner och skickat ut till folk. Problemen är två: dels har de slut på pengar, dels sparkadr de speldesignern för ett par år sedan efter att han förlorat förtroendet för dem och kvar blev då Art Goodwin med uppdraget att skriva om reglerna så att de inte innehöll copyrightat material från tidigare konstruktör. Art är en kronisk Pillare som aldrig blir klar med nåt. Jag har hört historier om en fullständig färdig prototyp av deras första världskrigsspel på östfronten som var speltestat och färdigt att publicera. Sedan klev Art in och ville se över reservistförbanden och spelet har inte setts sedan dess.

Det förefaller mig därför ytterst osannolikt att de har färdiga regler att skriva ut.
