CiteraI was introduced to this game almost by chance but was quickly convinced that it fills a need that no other game can fill: a global war with a fair amount of realism; simple gameplay; accomodating teams of 2 v 3 as well as 1 on 1; and in maybe 8-10 hours' time and has mechanics for autowin? Who ever tried to do that, let alone succeeded?

Plus, it uses counters, with steps, low density, and a paper map, so it is easily portable. I am sold, and can see this being played at conventions and one-day events quite a lot.

I have seen some positive and some negative reviews, and my take is that the rules are okay (52 pages but only 13-35 are actual rules) once you understand the format and/or know how the WiF rules work. Yes, the map could be larger (or counters smaller), but it works.

From what I have played before, this game compares to Triumph and Tragedy and the more detailed versions of Axis and Allies. Both have avid followers but I think Blitz deserves a chance by fans of both. Blitz delivers what is actually world war 2 unlike T&T; and the game is physically much easier to play than A&A. Time allotment is about equal I think, 6-12 hours.

The only other two games I know that even try to capture the entire global war are Quartermaster General and World in Flames, both fine and fun games but obviously at opposite ends of the playtime scale. Again, fans of those games should also try Blitz.

I suppose this turned into a mini-review, or at least an encouragement to try the game. A big thank you to the designer, and I hope you have gotten some attention for the very intelligent mechanics in this game. And maybe one day a deluxe version with a bigger map.

CiteraA recent review by gamer Bjorn Engqvist from Sweden aptly sums up the game: "I was introduced to this game almost by chance but was quickly convinced that it fills a need that no other game can fill: a global war with a fair amount of realism; simple gameplay; accomodating teams of 2 v 3 as well as 1 on 1; and in maybe 8-10 hours' time and has mechanics for autowin?
