This one has us really excited. Combat Patrol is a game of single man-to-man combat, set during World War Two. Each player controls a squad of soldiers, usually around twelve, from America, Britain, Germany, and even the French Resistance. Each player's squad has a leader, typically a Sergeant. The leader uses his command rating to direct the squad during the battle. Counters are large, one inch square, and feature individual soldiers carrying a weapon. Each character is individually named (Sgt Clark, Pte Garcia, etc.).

Soldiers fire their weapons, throw grenades and satchel charges, fight hand-to-hand, hide behind cover, climb over obstacles on the battlefield or up trees, and can even jump through windows. The soldier's weapons are a mix of rifles, machine guns, flamethrowers, bazookas, and pistols. The large counters feature a soldier standing on one side, and in a prone position on the other. The prone position shows a soldier taking advantage of some of the available cover, which could be stonewalls, buildings, trees, woodpiles, hedges, shell holes and more. Events such as mines, medics, snipers and extra orders allow for additional havoc.

Each turn represents between 10 and 30 seconds and individual hexes are about 2-3 meters (about 7-10 feet). These scales vary due to the chaos of an intense close combat and the many events that can occur during the game.

The game components include 6 maps, 120 individually named soldiers, additional information counters and markers, deck of 130 cards, play aid cards, quick-start cards, and dice. Combat Patrol is an absolute blast to play. Twelve scenarios are included, each with variable and random set-ups, and DIY scenario instructions, so the replay value is high. And because no game will play out the same way twice there's added value. To top all that, it's extremely solitaire friendly and great for online gaming.
