I agree. There are ofcourse pros and cons with that but as a newcomer you will get along alot better in the city than with us hillbillies out in sixfingerscountry where everyone has his own banjo.

But as a father of three I left the city for better schools and better daycare. But that is a far later problem. But Ill be back in town once those pesky kids are gone

After all those Wallander movies one would think that Southeast of Skåne would be depopulated from all those deaths. It is like that "Midsomer Murders" serie. Point out 4 people and you get a victim, a killer, a cop and a witness.

How common is it with Swedish TV-series/movies in the UK?

Very uncommon. Wallander is the only Swedish TV that has been shown here in decades, and the only reason for that is because the BBC did some adaptations of the books with Kenneth Branagh as Kurt Wallander. Now they are being shown on the minority channel BBC4. They are showing the new stories starring Krister Henriksson.

Swedish movies do get shown occasionally, but they are usually treated as arthouse oddities. Only 'serious' cinema such as Ingmar Bergman flicks get shown with any regularity. Lasse Hallström is virtually a Hollywood director these days.

Just to fill you guys in, now that dates are starting to firm up.

I shall be moving to Sweden in early September. Packing starts on 3rd Sept. I shall travel to Malmö on 6 Sept.

Unfortunately, it looks like it will be a while before I have both accommodation and possessions lined up to move into a new home. So I shall be living in an hotel room in Malmö for something like a month or more while the missus and kid go to stay with my parents in Cardiff. I shall be at the Hotel StayAt, Norra Skolgatan, if you want to know where I am.

I should have access to my googlemail at work and via internet cafes. Given that I'll be living in an hotel 7 days a week, I may be in desperate need of a rescue.
