As announced in the Boxen directory, I shall be moving from the UK to Malmö in August/September. Once I have settled in to my new home I shall be looking for new gaming partners in the Malmo and Lund areas. In particular I would like to see whether are there any interested gamers willing to help playtest my new game Bomber Command.

Bomber Command will be the sister game to Nightfighter, which is currently in GMT's P500 pre-order program. Whereas Nightfighter is very much a tactical game, Bomber Command is a raid-scale grand-tactical game in the mould of my Downtown and The Burning Blue designs. Against the German flak and nightfighter defences it matches British raid planning, comprising the main force bomber stream and supporting Mosquito and Gardening raids. (Yes, you can mine the Oresund!)

Details of both games can be found here:

Nightfighter: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/33924

Bomber Command: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/27101

You can pre-order Nightfighter here: http://www.gmtgames.com/s-2-p500.aspx

Consider this thread as the destination for chat on both games, though we can split off Nightfighter conversations if they get too heavy.

Cheers!

I just wish GMT had some presence in Europe so we could avoid always being hit by customs when ordering games from them. Nightfighter sounds really interesting but preordering is out of the question and I guess most of us agree on that. Usually better to wait for the game to be released and then buy it on eBay and ask the seller to write a nominal value to get through customs without hassle. Sad but true.

Can't you ask GMT to send you some extra copies and then we buy them from you?  :D

I find customs less of an issue than shipping. For some stupid reason, they discovered that US legislation forbids surface shipping for transportation companies that don't have their own ships, so it's just airmail these days. And if you preorder one game, airmail easily adds up to +50%.

That's a shame. Are you always hit by customs? In the UK it's about 1 in 5 packages.

That's a shame, because I need a minimum number of preorders to gte the game fast-tracked. However, I can understand it if it is very expensive.

Don't you worry, I've done my part and pre-ordered it. Is it out yet?

No. It looks as if it won't be out until 2010.

I have pre-ordered. It is one of the upcoming games I'm really stoked about. I'm going to force Anders Fager to play it and he WILL like it :-)

There's a very cool set of campaign rules that I've developed for Nightfighter. These will be released separately when the game comes out.

Heh. Well, you've got at least a couple of years before BC is published...  :)

Having read the memoirs of Adolf Galland I'm excited by the concept of a game involving the nightfighting over Germany. However, having also read up on the subject from brittish sources at the time it seems as if though the night fighting was very much a resource and technology struggle rather than a fight between formations and skills.
Reporter: "What do you feel when you kill an insurgent?"
Operator: "Recoil"

Now Playing: Ftf - World In Flames, pbem - Here I Stand, Age of Renaissance

You're right to a certain extent, though skill still had a huge part to play. I did an analysis of Nachtjagd kill claims a few months back and it revealed that the great majority of kills were achieved by a minority of pilots, just as for day combat. The skills may be different but were still as rare.

I don't trust Galland's memoirs, by the way. Far better are his interrogations conducted just after the war. There are two excellent books edited by Dave Isby that contain transcripts of these.
