Hi folks.

I have just secured a job with a Malmö-based developer and so should be moving to the city in later August or early September. I will be keen to make the acquaintance of gamers in the area.

I'm currently developing two board games for GMT. One on air combat nightfighting is currently on the P500 program and I hope will be publcihsed next year. I also have a game on RAF Bomber Command now in playtest. So I shall be looking for playtest partners as well as gamers for published titles.

Please excuse the use of English. I have no Swedish to speak of.

Thanks,

- lee

Hi and welcome.

Who would have thought that game developers would move to Malmö? Where are you working at, Ubisoft/Massive Entertainment?

Anyway, once you have moved I guess you won't have trouble finding playtesters nor willing players. There are several wargamers in Lund (smaller city just NE of Malmö) at least. I'm mostly an Eurogamer or lighter wargamer myself, mostly due to time constraints, but there are several hardcore gamers available as well.

Now I have a reason to finally play your games that I must admit I never got on the table. :)

Night-fighter sounds really interesting so would love to try it out.

That's the one!

That's good news. I'm a historical gamer more than a eurogamer, though I'm usually up for anything. My new designs are tending to be simpler and faster than my older games.

I shall be talking to my new employer soon about the move. The two big problems I face moving to Malmö are finding accommodation and moving my household from the UK to Sweden. Massive's HR department are going to help me find an apartment but shipping all my gear is going to take something like two weeks. Possibly longer.

I am faced by several scenarios. A worst case would be that I fly to Malmö, leaving my wife and kid in the UK, and live in a hotel for a number of weeks until a home is ready and my possessions arrive in the country. If this happens then I would have the sucky experience of living in a hotel room seven days a week. I may need help to get me out of there (especially at weekends) and do something social, otherwise I fear some hotel maid will discover me with a hemp necktie hanging from a light fitting!

I guess you won't have moved yet by then, but 28-30 Aug, we have our little wargame convention Friendly Fire, which would be a better way of spending the weekend checking ou the channels on the hotel TV. It features the famous Greider Bar.

Where is that? Stockholm?

I'll probably not have moved then: it will likely be in the week after so that I can start my new job on September 7. However, it's always possible that we may have to accelerate things and leave a fraction earlier. Who knows?

Things should clarify in the next week or two. I'll post updates here as I have 'em.

Oh, I realize you haven't been introduced to Göran Greider. He's one of our two internal jokes here on the forum.

Göran Greider is proletarian poet, journalist and self-appointed leftist thinker. I guess what makes him so funny to joke about is the fact that he is so cliché that you're tempted to think he's some kind of art installation rather than a real person. He looks like this, and it's capitalism's fault that he is fat:

The other internal joke is the Grand Mufti, more nazi than the nazis and originator of all Middle East evils. It would be borderline mobbing to bring him up if the person who brought him up originally was still on the forum, but as far as I know he's stopped visiting, so I guess it's safe to make fun of the Mufti now.

CiteraWhere is that? Stockholm?

Linköping, a bit closer to get to for most people. About 1,5 hours less by train to get there from Malmö, compared to Stockholm.

A bit less hardcore communist, more populist.
